This post will show the Liferay Installation.
Liferay is a free and open source CMS(Content Management System) written in Java.
Liferay is available in two version i.e.
1. Community Edition (Free)
2. Enterprise Edition
Following are the steps to setup/install Liferay Community Edition on localhost (on your local machine):
Download Liferay Portal 6.1 Community Edition (6.1 CE GA2), bundled with Tomcat using link Get/Download Liferay
Extract the downloaded zip in C:\Program Files (x86)
After extracting the path is C:\Program Files (x86)liferay-portal-6.1.1-ce-ga2
Open bin folder run startup.bat file
Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\liferay-portal-6.1.1-ce-ga2\tomcat-7.0.27\bin
A black screen will open that will start tomcat server and launch the application
and you will see the below screen
Note: If you may not able to see this screen after 1,2 minutes or if you see errors on black screen and application is not launching then, may be your 8080 port is in use by some other application (this may be the one reason) if it is so, then make your 8080 port free and try again running your startup.bat file.
To change the port open file C:\Program Files (x86)\liferay-portal-6.1.1-ce-ga2\tomcat-7.0.27\conf\server.xml
and search for line
<connector URIEncoding="UTF-8" connectionTimeout="20000" port="8080" protocol="HTTP/1.1" redirectPort="8443"/>
change it to
<connector URIEncoding="UTF-8" connectionTimeout="20000" port="8181" protocol="HTTP/1.1" redirectPort="8443"/>
